Later he received his Thai name, Tong Suk, whick means Golden Happiness. This past November, he turned ten years old! 		<description><![CDATA[A female elephant in her mid-twenties arrived here in early December. We were told her name was Mae Bpae and that she was supposedly one of Mae Jan Peng's daughters. We were also told that she was pregnant but as to how far along there was some confusion. Unfortunately, Mae Bpae was farther along in her pregnancy than her owner realized and she gave birth alone in her shelter.]]></description>

Nancy was so taken with the park and with Lek that before she left that first time, Nancy told Lek that she wanted to finance an elephant rescue and later her funds helped resuce Malai Tong. Sadly, on July 5th, 2011 Mum Nancy had a stroke. To commemorate Mum Nancy a beautiful twenty year old banyan tree was planted in a prominent spot in the park so that her spirit will be with us always]]></description>

With support from Elephant Nature Park they were able to secure this beautiful site that they will develop into a valuable facility for the treatment and rehabilitation of abused and confiscated wildlife and for education and conservation projects within the Chiang Dao protected area.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Many of you will remember Tong Tae, who came to stay at Elephant Nature Park with his mother Mae Tong Dee when he was only 10 days old, in mid May 2008. One of his owners contacted the park to see if mother and baby could come to stay with us because Tong Tae was the 5th calf Mae Tong Dee had given birth to and she was around 50 years old. He wanted to make sure that both of them would be healthy and stress free. Lek requested that the owners agreed to keep Tong Tae and Mae Tong Dee at ENP for at least one year. ]]></description>

Somboon died because of an intestinal blockage resulting from her inability to masticate her food properly. She was approximately 55 years old. We will miss her tremendously.]]></description>

And baby Faa Mai is a very special addition because she is taking up the reins of another elephant who used to be in the program, a beloved ele named Max. Max passed away last year which was a tremendous loss for us. But one way in which it was made a bit easier was that a baby elephant was born the very same day he passed away. 		<description><![CDATA[Loy Kratong is one of Thailand's most beautiful festivals and is a favorite time of year at Elephant Nature Park. It is Loy Kratong tradition in Chiang Mai to have many beauty contests, so we decided to have our own here at the Park. This year will definitely go down in the Park history books as the most glamorous celebration to date! Last year two of our mahouts and a few of our male volunteers agreed to dress up as ladies for the first annual "Loy Katoy" show. ]]></description>

Mae Kham Paan seems to be getting a little bit more comfortable spending time with Mae Kham Geao and her new friend Mae Tee, but still doesn't join them when they are grazing out in the back field. 		<description><![CDATA[A year ago, we welcomed Mae Bua Loy: a lovely, gentle-natured elephant who loves to look after babies, after having her own taken away from her prematurely. Since her arrival she has been a member of the Tong Tae family and thoroughly enjoys her auntie role to the fullest. Despite her deformed back leg, she gets around quite well and keeps up with the rest of her group.]]></description>

Medo is still not quite sure what she thinks of him, mostly seeming to be annoyed by his intrusion on her and Mae Lanna's peaceful solitude. 		<description><![CDATA[Speaking of Faa Mai and Chang Yim, they are both doing great. Faa Mai is a total "little girl," not nearly as rough as Chang Yim, very gentle natured. She has the cutest cartoon-style "butterfly wing" shaped ears, and is quite chubby. Her mother Mae Bua Tong does seem to be living up to the new "part-time mom" title and has found new friends in Mae Tee and Mae Kham Geao.]]></description>
